Sophie Tucker: Dog Survivor

A DOG FELL OFF A SAILBOAT, SWAM FIVE MILES, AND SURVIVED FIVE MONTHS ON A DESERTED ISLAND BY EATING WILD GOATS???
Now it's time for our "Hero Pet of the Day."
Last November, an Australian couple named Jan and Dave Griffith were sailing their sailboat in rough waters off the northeast coast of Australia when their Australian cattle dog, Sophie Tucker, fell overboard and was swept away.
The Griffiths searched for over an hour, but when they couldn't find Sophie, they figured she'd drowned.
But Sophie DIDN'T drown. She swam over FIVE-AND-A-HALF MILES to a largely uninhabited island called St. Bees Island.
After she washed up on shore, she learned to survive . . . for the next five months . . . by eating KOALAS and wild baby GOATS.
Eventually, rangers for the Australian Marine Parks and Wildlife staff started to notice something was feasting on the island's animals. That's when they tracked Sophie down and captured her . . . and last week they returned her to the Griffiths.
